A man in Madison, Wisconsin, was attacked by several men recently and suffered a stab wound to the back. Police say four assailants approached the victim as he was walking down a street downtown, The Capital Times reports.
The incident occurred in the early morning hours, and police were alerted of the assault around 3 a.m. Although the 52-year-old man was stabbed, he was treated and released from the hospital. Investigators have no leads or description of the attackers.
"He told an officer he was walking on North Lake Street when four men jumped him," Madison police spokesman Joel DeSpain told the news source. "He was stabbed in the scuffle, but the attackers said nothing and took nothing from him."
According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, there were more than 1.4 million cases of violent crime in the U.S. in 2009. Those looking to reduce the risk of being victims may want to consider carrying pepper spray. When discharged into the face of an attacker, it will make it difficult for them to see and breathe.
