Police recently arrested a man in Hudson, New York, who is suspected of attacking his former girlfriend while the pair were in Vermont. The 21-year-old alleged assailant is believed to be responsible for holding his ex-girlfriend at knife point after breaking into her apartment, the Times Union reports.
The incident occurred around 4 a.m. when police say that he forced his way into her residence. The victim told police that he told her that if she came with him she would not get hurt, but she fought back against the assault.
According to the news source, investigators said that the man began to choke and beat the victim, but she was able to escape during the fight by using a side door and by alerting police. It was then that local authorities in Vermont told New York officers about his whereabouts, and they picked him up at his house.
Individuals who are looking to prevent a similar attack may want to buy pepper spray. When discharged into the face of an assailant, the device makes it difficult for them to see and breathe, temporarily disabling them.
