Police step up security in wake of jogger attack

Police in San Anselmo, California, are beefing up security after a woman was attacked while jogging along local roads. Authorities say the woman was forced to the ground and cut with a knife, and investigators are still looking for a suspect, according to the Ross Valley Reporter.

Police say that the victim, a 32-year-old woman, was running alongside Greenfield Avenue between 8:30 and 8:45 p.m., when a man came up from behind her and demanded money. The news source reports that she told him she had none, at which point the attacker cut her with what is believed to be a small pocket knife.

Investigators have very little information to go on other than that the man was about six feet tall and had a deep voice. Officials have urged runners and walkers to take extra precaution when out alone, including staying in well-lit areas and increasing their awareness.

For those who like to go for a run alone, paying attention to personal safety is a must. One way to stay safe is to buy pepper spray, as the device has shown to be an effective way to disable a potential attacker.
