Bizarre beer bottle attack highlights home safety

Investigators in Point Arena, Florida, are looking into a bizarre incident where a woman was attacked right outside her door. Police say the victim was struck with a 40-ounce beer bottle and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment, The Ukiah Daily Journal reports.

Authorities say that the incident began when the 22-year-old victim answered her door. Witnesses told responding officers the victim was immediately struck with the bottle by 20-year-old Veronica Lopez, who punched the woman several times before taking off in the opposite direction, according to the news source.

The victim had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance due to a large, four-inch cut on her head, and police were still looking for the attacker several days after the incident took place.

Those who are concerned about suffering a similar fate may want to take several steps to boost their home safety. For starters, not opening the door for unidentified people is crucial, and residents should make use of peep holes every time.

Additionally, buying peppers spray can be an effective route as well. Experts suggest practicing with the device to ensure it is used properly if the need ever arises.
