Police in Columbus, Indiana, are still searching for a person they believe is responsible for a violent attack on a woman. The incident has officials looking for answers and local residents on edge regarding the possibility of another assault, Fox affiliate WXIN reports.
The victim was a 34-year-old woman, and police say that the assailant forced his or her way inside her home at some point overnight. The homeowner was beaten so badly that she became unconscious and had to be airlifted to the nearest hospital. Amazingly, the victim's two children were home at the time and slept through the whole thing. The home invasion has caused neighbors to fear for their safety.
"I've got grandkids playing over here all of the time and it's kind of scary for sure," Benny Shipley told the news source.
Buying pepper spray can be a good decision for those looking to boost home or personal safety. When sprayed into the face of an attacker, the device can make it hard for them to see and breathe, which will keep a potential victim out of harm's way.
