Police in East Kildonan, Canada, are looking for a man they believe assaulted a woman at a bus stop. Investigators are asking for any potential witnesses to come forward and provide information as to the identity and appearance of the assailant, CTV News reports.
The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. while the 34-year-old victim was waiting for the bus. Authorities say that the man approached her, struck her with a bottle and knocked her to the ground. Once he had her on the ground, he continued the assault and began choking her until some passing motorists saw what was happening and stopped.
According to the news source, when some drivers exited their vehicles to see what was happening, the suspect pretended to be helping the victim. However, she was able to break free and call police.
Safety experts say one of the best ways to protect oneself from being the victim of an assault is to buy pepper spray. It is also recommended to carry the device in an easy-to-reach location so that it can be used quickly if the need ever arises.
