Woman attacked in graveyard after being lured in

A woman who as lured into a graveyard in Bridgewater, England, was attacked upon entering the area. The victim went in to investigate what sounded like a woman screaming but was instead punched in the face by a male assailant, the Bridgewater Mercury reports.

The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m., and the 20-year-old victim was not badly hurt. Police are still investigating, and told the news source that although the attacker rummaged through the victim's belongings, it appears as though nothing was taken.

Authorities are also using the incident as an opportunity to offer a reminder about personal safety as the victim was likely fooled into entering the graveyard by the attacker.

"If you hear strange noises, do not investigate, but call the police," officer Miranda Elkins informed the news provider.

Along with not investigating strange noises, individuals may also want to boost their personal safety by carrying pepper spray. While it is an effective defense against an attacker, experts strongly suggest practicing with the device to ensure it is used correctly if ever has to be discharged.
