A woman in Lakeland, Florida, was recently seriously beaten when at least one intruder entered her house. The attack left the victim in critical condition and raises concerns about home safety, The Ledger reports.
Police say the incident occurred later in the day and the homeowner was not found until the following morning by her neighbors. Investigators have not determined the exact time of the invasion, but believe that it happened at night.
It is also unknown whether or not anything of value was taken from the home, although the victim's car was stolen and later discovered by authorities. Police are waiting for her to recover from her injuries before looking for a description of the assailant.
"She's not able to be questioned at this time," sergeant Terri Smith told the news source. "At this point, they do not have a suspect. [Detectives] are continuing to follow leads in the investigation."
Those concerned about their home safety may want to consider having pepper spray somewhere in their residence. The device has shown to be an effective way to disarm a potential assailant and allow a victim to get to safety.
