A mother and daughter in Chattanooga, Tennessee, are recovering from serious injuries sustained when a pit bull recently attacked them. The pair, who owned the dog, and have raised concerns about the safety of keeping the notoriously aggressive animal as a pet, CBS affiliate WRCB reports.
An unidentified person called 911 after they spotted the duo getting attacked by their pet. Local animal control officials told the news source that the injuries were deemed disfiguring by one of the police officers, and were later deemed serious after the victims arrived at the hospital and one of them had to be taken into surgery.
The animal, which is 2-years-old, was taken into custody by animal control officers and is likely to be euthanized because it poses a safety threat. Some officials believe that the attack may have been caused by an argument going on inside that excited the dog, according to the news source.
Those who live in the area of a similarly aggressive dog may want to consider carrying an animal repellent like pepper spray. The device has proven to be especially effective at potentially disabling an attacking dog, which can prevent a injury.
