A dog in Winchester, Virginia, was recently responsible for an attack that left three individuals injured, one of them seriously. The incident apparently sprouted from an argument between the three people, and the attack is the fourth such occurrence this year, Northern Virginia Daily reports.
Police who responded told the news source that the man who was most seriously injured was likely the co-owner of the dog. The 25-year-old victim was apparently bitten in the face and had to be taken to the hospital for further treatment.
The other owner of the dog, a 19-year-old woman, was injured, as well as a 20-year-old man who sustained bite wounds to his hand. Nobody has been charged in connection with the incident, but authorities took the dog into custody where it must remain for a 10-day period.
According to Dogsbite.org, an group that seeks to reduce such attacks, around 1,000 people require emergency treatment for dog bites in the United States each day. Those looking to reduce their chances of being bitten may want to look into buying pepper spray as an animal repellent. The device makes it difficult for dogs to see and breathe, allowing a victim to get to safety.
