A man in Atlanta, Georgia, who has fallen victim to thieves multiple times in the past, is not planning on lying down anytime soon. Robbers had stolen Roby Dail's air conditioning units three times before, but this time he was prepared and hit them with pepper spray when they tried again, NBC affiliate WXIA reports.
The attempted robbery occurred around 3:21 a.m., when Dail heard the security alarm go off. He pursued the men, which is when he used the pepper spray. Dail used a video camera to film the entire ordeal.
"It had to hurt 'em," Dail told the news source. "They were struggling to see as they drove down the road."
According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the rate of such crimes was about 134 per 1,000 households in 2008, and as Dail proves, pepper spray can be a very effective deterrent against criminals. For those who go out running or walking by themselves, experts say carrying pepper spray is a good way to improve one's personal safety.
