A woman in Edinburgh, Scotland, who answered her door after a rambunctious group knocked was seriously injured when one of the individuals attacked her. The assault left the 25-year-old victim with a fractured cheek bone and she had to be taken to the hospital for treatment, Scottish Television reports.
The incident occurred around 3 a.m., when the young woman was alone in her apartment. A number of individuals were arguing in the street and knocked on her door. When she told them to leave, one of the members of the group - a white woman in her late 20s - began the attack.
"This was a vicious and entirely unprovoked assault which left the victim with serious facial injuries, and we are appealing for help in tracing the culprit," a spokesperson for the police told the news source.
Those looking for a way to protect themselves from a similar attack may want to consider carrying pepper spray. When used correctly, the device makes it difficult for an assailant to see and breathe which can allow a potential victim to get to safety.
