Police in Milford, Connecticut, are on the lookout for a pair of men they believe broke into a woman's home and assaulted her. Though the victim suffered no serious injuries, she was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, the Connecticut Post reports.
According to authorities, the incident occurred around 11:40 p.m. when the duo knocked on the victim's door and asked if they could use her phone. She attempted to turn the men away, but they forced themselves into the home and began their raid. The news source reports that the men then rummaged through her bedroom before leaving the scene.
There are a number of practical ways to boost home safety. For starters, using the peep hole every time someone knocks may seem like common sense, but it can go overlooked. Additionally, ensuring that one has a strong, solid door is the best defense against a home invasion.
Being prepared in the case of such an intrusion is important as well. Having pepper spray in a residence is an effective way to bolster home safety, as it can make it difficult for an attacker to see and breathe.
