Colorado woman attacked by two pit bulls

A 68-year-old woman from Arvada, Colorado, was recently attacked by a pair of pit bulls after she tried to protect her own dog. The unprovoked assault left the victim's pet with 18 puncture wounds on one of his legs, an injury which required more than 4 hours of surgery to treat, ABC affiliate KMGH reports.

The woman, Peg Wyman, was walking her 5-month-old puppy through her neighborhood when the two canines sprung the attack. The animals targeted her pet, and she threw herself over him to shield him from the onslaught.

However, the dogs turned their attention toward her. She was being dragged down a hill when John Torres spotted the situation and scared the dogs away.

"I'll love him until the day I die," Wymer told the news source. "I mean, he saved our lives. What can you say? He's my hero forever."

Those who are nervous about walking through a neighborhood with an aggressive dog may want to consider carrying pepper spray. The device has proven to be an effective animal repellent.
