English woman hit with shoe after altercation

A woman in Newcastle, England, was attacked a bar and hit with a shoe, recently, highlighting the importance of personal safety when one is out. The victim received a substantial cut to the eye, but did not suffer any other serious injury, The Journal reports.

The assault happened after a disagreement between the victim and another woman, and occurred around 1:30 a.m. According to police, the two got in an argument on the dance floor which spilled over to another part of the bar. At that point, the victim was struck in the eye with the heel of the attackers shoe.

Although the attacker was arrested, she was released on bail as police investigate the matter further. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, around 1.4 million instance of violent crime in the United States in 2009.
