Police in Keizer, Oregon, are searching for a man in connection with a home invasion that left a woman injured. Investigators say the situation could have been much worse, but the victim was able to fight off her attacker, Fox affiliate KPTV reports.
The incident occurred around 2 p.m. when the 27-year-old homeowners answered a knock at the door a man immediately forced his away inside. Police say the man tried to strangle the victim, but she was able to escape his grasp and he fled the scene. The attack is shocking given the usually quiet nature of the neighborhood.
“I mean this is a quiet neighborhood,” neighbor Karen Drew told the news source. “It’s really quiet around here and to have that happen it’s just really scary.”
Anybody looking to boost their home safety may want to take several proactive steps. Solid core doors and heavy duty locks are a good start, and buying pepper spray is a good idea as well. The device can cause temporarily blindness and difficulty breathing, preventing a homeowner from becoming a victim.
