A man from Long Island was sentenced to 18 years recently for an attack on an Auburn, New York, woman that left her seriously injured. Christopher Tessitore was convicted of attacking the woman, whom he had never met before, in an incident earlier this year, YNN Central New York reports.
Police say the assault was caused by an argument between the two. According to the news source, the victim began yelling at Tessitore for his former drug use, at which point he turned on her and repeatedly stabbed her. The victim was nearly decapitated from the wounds and suffered long-lasting damage to her face and neck. Tessitore was apparently not remorseful, but that likely did not factor into his sentence.
"It frankly mattered a little bit, but no apology could ever account for the acts for which he performed," assistant district attorney Rome Canzano told the news provider.
To prevent becoming the victim of a similar violent attack, individuals may want to carry pepper spray to stay safe. When used correctly, this device can cause temporary blindness and difficulty breathing in an assailant, allowing a potential victim to avoid injury.
