Police in Chicago, Illinois, are on the lookout for the man they believe to be responsible for a recent downtown attack on a woman. The 38-year-old victim was able to break free before suffering any serious injuries but the incident still highlights the need to focus on personal safety, the Chicago Tribune reports.
The woman told police that the suspect approached her has she walked down an alley around 4 p.m. According to the news source, he allegedly told her that he had a gun and that he would shoot if she screamed. Then he forced her to a more secluded part of the area and told her to get on the ground, but she was able to fight him off and get to safety.
Despite the fact police were unable to locate the man after she reported the incident, investigators released a composite sketch of the suspect with the hopes that any witnesses will come forward.
Individuals looking to protect themselves from becoming the victim of a similar crime may want to buy pepper spray as a way to boost personal safety. When discharged into the face of an attacker, the device will cause them to become temporarily blind and make it difficult for them to breathe, allowing a victim to get to safety.
